The World Peace Diet
“The World Peace Diet” is a book written by Will Tuttle. Its main attempt is to explore and outline more empowering understanding of our world through far-reaching insinuations of our food choices and the world view the both reflect. Food is actually the most close and telling linking both with the natural and with human existing cultural customs. Through consumption of both plants and animals of this earth, we accurately include them. In addition, it is through this act of eating that we contribute of our beliefs and patterns at the most primitive and mindful levels. As offspring, through continuous experience to the multifaceted forms of belief adjoining our most complicated cluster ritual, eating food, we swallowed our values’ values and imperceptible expectations. The essence of this paper is not to discuss on the diet in the usual sense, but to explore the thoughtful cultural and mystical consequences of our food choices, especially animal foods.
The origin of our food is either form plants or animals. In the various cultures within the society the difference between the two sources of foods: plants and animals are overlooked. Majority of individuals cannot relate the difference of the foods they obtain from both plants and animals. It is important to empower ourselves in understanding and recognizing more deeply the sources of foods within the human habitat. Food of plant origin is often the fruits including the seeds, which are produced by particular plants within our environment. Seeds and fruits are produced to human` habitat in various types; however the edible ones are consumable. For instance, some grains like quinoa, rice, oats, millet, rye, and wheat are the seeds and fruits from the cereal grass (Tuttle 26). Grins are one of the most consumed food products from plants. The take large portions in terms of human consumption as they are rich in majority body nutrients. Soybeans, beans, peas, peanuts, chickpeas, and lentils are legumes that also play a considerable role in sustaining human food capacity.
Fruit vegetables, for instance, tomatoes, pumpkins, okra, cucumbers, squashes, and eggplants are seeds obtained from the herbaceous plants. Considerably, fruits and seeds that are released from trees comprise other food plants like apples, olives, blackberries, and coconuts. Therefore, it is important to note that behind each plant food in our plates that we see in field, forests, and orchards including gardens, there is an individual nurturing and tending plants. If the plants are grown naturally and well looked for, it is clear in observing the world`s beauty. These plants are to be grown on a small-scale method that easiness the activities of containing their demands. If the form of agriculture is done this way, then the beauty and abundance of the earth will be obtained with healthy foods through practicing caring and working with regard to nature`s rhythms.
With keen observation, it is clear that there are minimal impacts that result from eating these foods. Moreover, most of the foods are fruits that are obtained from grasses herbs, and other plants like vine. In addition, plants are not mobile like animals, and thus lack the nervous system with the pain receptors that transmit the action of impulses. Since they are rooted and cannot move, there is no motive that nature may grant or ensure evolution mechanisms to allow them perceive pain.
Food of the animal origin is mainly the actual fresh including the organs of dead animals. Animals may be excretions appropriated as food. The muscles for a fleshy organ that majority of the plants killed are used in our culture`s meals. For instance the flesh of fish is considerable among various communities and cultures. Fish flesh and shellfish belong to typical animal species like tuna, crab, and shrimp. Even though the amphibians and reptiles are minimally consumed in the United States compared to some nations, frog that are reared in the country and turtles are kept for egg laying. Their eggs are used as food including their alligator meat for consumption. Major hotels and fast-food stops are remarkable areas where an individual can find this form of foods from animals (Tuttle 32).
The flesh obtained from birds is also denoted by the animal`s species. For instance, consumption of chicken, turkey, and emu, differentiation is mainly made through different types and colors indicated by the flesh. These include breast and leg, dark type of meat, and white meat. However, flesh from other animals is not denoted like in birds, but as a specific cut of flesh, just like in mammals. These cuts include the sirloin, rump, T-bone, brisket, loin, and bacon. Others include hamburger, ribs, hotdog lamb chops, and ground beef. Moreover, it is important to note that internal organs of animals are also eaten. These internal organs include the liver, stomach tissues, geese, tongue, brains, feet of certain animals, and the heart. Drinking milking from lactating mother cows, sheep, including goats is also a common practice in foods from animals. Considerably, the milk from these animals may also be eaten as butter, cream, and variety of cheese. Latter are formed from rennet, the stomach lining obtained from slaughtering calves, in order to coalesce the milk. Eggs laid by birds are also consumed as food, likewise to the production of honey by bees.
Unlike plants that naturally produce healthy foods, which are limited to introduction of any suffering, animals are readily attacked and dominated in order to obtain flesh, milk, including eggs that are of importance to human consumption. Consequently, this impacts painful and suffering ion animals, we perceive the feeling of an individual taking a knife and spiteful into the skin of a goat. This is different from cutting the skin of a tomato, chopping sweet potatoes of even grapefruit. In addition, biting into the flesh of a sheep is not similar like that of an orange. Various philosophers have come up to highlight the killing of animals for food. For instance, Konrad Lorenz once outlined that any individual who did not perceive the difference in chopping up a dog and that of chopping up a fruit should commit suicide for the benefit of the society.
This idea of the types of food sources within man`s surrounding are of importance, because the lay the foundation of denoting the various feeding processes that have submerged plants or animals. Moreover, today majority of the vertebrates have been exposed to serious environmental changes. Vertebrates themselves are very sensitive and are endowed with one of the most sensible central nervous systems in the animal kingdom. The variety of painful stimuli like being cut, confined, burned, crushed, electrically shocked, and subjection to cold and heat are psychological pain aspects that are impacted into vertebrates. Their babies may also be stolen or their eggs crushed resulting to pains their survival.
Food and its source within the environment is also an important aspect especially in conveying the culture of denial. Man ignores some valuable activities or aspects within his environment that directly impact on his well-being. Ignoring to look into the animal-derived foods produced through modern forms that are very cruel and exploitative is a crucial issue. Individuals mainly do not even look into animals as the source of food (Tuttle 49). However their emphasis is mainly on obtaining the food and utilizing it to their benefits. We avoid looking deeply into the food if its origin is from animal extraction. The practice of avoidance and denial that is mainly applied to eating, the basic activity including virtual ritual, is impacted directly in both our individual and public life (Reinfeld and Jennifer 244). The suffering of our food choices is based on the utilization and conservation methods we put into practice to avoid depletion of the resources, like that of animals and plants. Individuals mainly choose to be remorse and guilt, aspects that become too painful to bear. This may cause serious emotional disturbance including dissonance. Choosing to be ignorant and inattentive is a major way of failing to take measurable actions in planning food issues (Tuttle 66).
Being unwilling and impaired to focus, confront, and take responsibilities for establishing considerable food methods of obtaining foods from animals is a vital aspect. Cruelty is approached as people lose their politeness and civility especially when we obtain or eat animal produced foods. This is the issue that is facing the modern world, which emphasizes on utilization rather than conservation of animals. The taboos of the modern world hold that animal foods are the most essential and quality. This has posed a great danger on the depreciating and pain introduced into their bodies as they do perceive pain. It is a matter worthy to be approached by each individual within the human environment (Goudreau 272).
Choosing to neglect important aspects when we shop for prepare or eat food, we put ourselves into horror and suffering we are initiating and consuming. In addition, we tear the beauty and nature of the world around us, exposing it to deterioration aspects. The acquired inability to perceive the certainty of appreciating the lovingness and overwhelming of the earth allows human beings to ravage the forests including oceans and to destroy the natural world. Nevertheless, becoming blind to the pain induced into defenseless animal’s results to human beings becoming a barrier to the beauty and luminosity created by nature through oppressing animals that we disconnect throughout each meal.
Millions of adults and children are consuming massive tones of tortured animals daily. This shows human beings` traits of violence, war, poverty, and despair. Considerably, the outcomes of such practices are unavoidable to pretend of reaping the joy and happiness in the world through enslaving animals (Goudreau 273). Therefore, there is no happiness among human beings in their ways of suppressing the animals neglecting they have feelings and thus perceive pain. We may speak of love and freedom, but the limitation of other animals from comfortable living suppresses the aspect of love. This in turn denotes undermining and destroying the animals. Our habitual practices within the environment determine the future of the next generation, especially through the human activities of destroying animal life. Considerably, the various cycles of life that have limited man`s establishment from the historical approach to the current society are rooted in the violence portrayed in our daily foods. Even though animals cannot deviate people like we do, our violence on them impacts on us.
Inheriting cruelty is through confining and killing animals for food. People have brought mental disturbances and cruelty because of their violence on animals. Among this effects include emotions, social disturbance, and spiritual dimensions. The human beings eating habits have made him to look like predator. We are seeing ourselves developing predatory characteristics that are able to sustain us by obtaining animal foods at a more reliable and easier way. Most of the institutions have established value based settings that ensure timely delivery of animal foods to their employees as a motivational element. Moreover, cruelty is inescapable in limiting, mutilating and slaughtering innocent animals for food. This is an aspect that has been induced in our cognitive sense since childhood. Therefore, it has destructed and blocked our attention towards morality, thus we become inattentive enhancers of cruelty.
Eating animals is no one`s choice. This is a factor inheritable from one generation to the other. For instance, if you take a walk into the baby food department store, it is evident that almost all the foods in the section are animal food flavored. These foods include beef-flavored baby food, veal, lamb bay food, and chicken. Well-meaning friends, parents, and grandparents have conveyed the similar practice to the young ones and the process is likely to continue over a long period of time. The secretions of animals have been forced on the young generation hindering it from remembering the importance of keeping our nature and animals. We are never informed on the abilities of human beings to take up large quantities of animal foods definite to the cultural belief of the society. In addition, we are never introduced to any sense of extreme confinement regarding the routine of filling plates with animal food while watching or reading certain objectives (Reinfeld and Jennifer 244).
However, it is important to note that intelligence is the ability to make sound links, and this is considerable for all living societies. The living societies include humans, animals, societies, and communities. Participating in daily rituals that undermine the ability to link crucial approaches impedes our intelligence. In addition, it suppresses the ability of a discrete to deal efficiently with issues of animal food that we create. Because of the adept trait on disconnecting from agony of animals, we grow to become hungry people, war-ravaged communities, living bio-systems, and future generations. Ethical intelligence is imperative, especially in making connections through its emphasis on acting to relieve others, and not undermining or suppressing them. However, like cognitive intelligence, compassion is suppressed through eating animals. The ability to disconnect people from eating animal foods in each meal is considerably difficulty. This is with consideration that majority of the eating practices have been intertwined with the customs and culture of the society.
As long as we stand at the core and culture that focuses animals as merely as sources of food and commodities, there is limited hope for human survival. The methodological practice of rejecting, suppressing, and excluding that it is our basic food separates us from our inner wisdom including the sense of belonging. Through ignoring the sincerity of our connectedness, human beings thereby commit genocide and thus forsake the intelligence and compassion that is to guide the humans. Moreover human being`s practice on animal food is likely to deteriorate the universal elements of nature. It is important to take into account the various aspects that are impaired through man`s feeding on animals. For instance the society will be at risk due to the rising population from depreciating number of animals (Reinfeld and Jennifer 244). This puts the human life in danger because soon there will be limited number of animals. Moreover, because of competition among the masses it is possible that some of the species will be completely lost from the ecosystem (Tuttle 176).
In conclusion, it is imperative for human beings to understand the various impacts that they induce through animal foods. This can be seen through the pain that the animals are exposed to. Moreover, the beauty of the community is lost and thus man is likely to be left on a loneliness land. In addition, animal food production and consumption is a hard practice to stop since this is an activity that is accepted from one cohort to the other through parents, friends, and families. Therefore, animal food can only be regulated through each individual getting to the ethical level of life and then focusing on the place of animals in the society and their roles apart from just slaughtering them for food.
