Materials for Physics Topics: Sources of Information
In order to carry out some research, students have to exercise their creativity. However, that’s not the only issue that students face with the project topics on physics – it may become a challenge to find appropriate data to use in research.-

Physics Project Topics and Materials
It is not a rare problem to struggle with materials, so you don’t have to worry. The first thing you should do is choosing a theme you want to research. Physics ideas for papers are various and, for most parts, interesting. Write down a list of the questions you are excited about.
For example, nuclear physics project topics are on the top among students, because it is an applicable issue: there are a lot of nuclear power plants all around the world and some examples of catastrophes with nuclear plants made students even more curious about the issue. Besides, nuclear war and denuclearization are also widely discussed.
To specify this wide field, here are some examples:
- types of radioactive transformations on the example of one of the accidents;
- the nature of nuclear testing and its effects;
- radiation: myths and reality, etc.
Another currently central issue is electrical vehicles, which is a part of a wider theme – project topics on physics with electronics. Check the following ideas:
- a comparison between the usage of electrical cars and the ones with internal combustion engine;
- recycling of electrical cars accumulators;
- electrophysical properties of semiconductors that are in every home;
- giant magnetoresistive effect and its use;
- holography and its application;
- the eye as an optical system, etc.
Undergraduate Project Topics in Physics
When your physics research project topics are adjusted, you start collecting the materials. Before you go to the library or academic websites, look through the requirements you are given for your research. There is a difference between undergraduate paper and, for example, the one for a national diploma.
For an undergraduate paper, you usually need around 5 credible sources. Make sure you list at least two sources with different opinions, for example, an article of a scientist who is a proponent of nuclear energy and research of an anti-nuclear scientist. If your teacher researches the area of your physics research project topics, use his or her works, and this will definitely please him/her.
Topics for undergraduates should better be focused on practical issues that one faces every day because it will show that you are really interested in the physical underground of life. Since you don’t have to present in-depth research, you can write about a specific problem. Take such options as examples:
- the radiation level in your city or country and its influence on the health of people;
- electromagnetic waves in local nature;
- ultrasound in medicine, etc.
Physics Project Topics for National Diploma
In general, undergraduates do not have strict rules about the materials. On the contrary, a paper for a national diploma requires a large list of materials to be used. Here are some tips for you:
- find out how many sources you need to have (usually it’s from 15 to 35);
- site different opinions;
- use the works of scientists from all around the world;
- meet at least one scientist and discuss the idea with him or her.
Ideas for national diploma should better relate to the issue of a national scale, and you have to go deeper than for undergraduate projects. In general, you can pick up any issue and research it on the scale of your country. You may present the most famous physicists of your country, magnetic storms and their impact on human health in your country, etc.
Here are a few ideas you may consider for the main paper in pursuing a degree:
- optical properties of nanocomposites;
- physics of systems of supercold atoms in optical lattices;
- influence of curvature on nonlinear dynamics of nanomagnets;
- optics of magnetoplasmon systems;
- disadvantages of aberration of optical systems, etc.
Sources of Information
The biggest question is still there – where do you find the courses? The answer is simple: your school library or the Internet! At the library, you can ask the librarian for help. On the Internet, you can usually find physics project topics and materials in PDF, which is also good because you can download them.
In any case, if you have a topic you are interested in, you already know at least one source of the information; and with one article or book, you already have a list of materials that the author had used for writing it. Use it and proceed with your research!
